Conscious Ageing in action

Our projects

Conscious Ageing is a pragmatic response to the complex challenges and transitions we face throughout life. It’s about taking responsibility - based on our unique circumstances -

for how we live, how we care for others, and how we relate to the world around us, regardless of age.

Through conscious decisions and actions in the present, we shape not only our own lives but also the future we create.

Jánoshida 2030

The project, launched in 2021, is a social innovation model for sustainable, caring, and intergenerational community and regional development. Embracing a paradigm shift that sees ageing Europe as an opportunity rather than a problem, the village of Jánoshida - a small, 2,500 inhabitants’ community in central Hungary - has placed active and conscious ageing at the center of its revitalization and future vision.

The initiative applies permaculture design principles (both ecological and social) to offer education, skills, employment, and future to younger and active generations in the village and region, while establishing supportive local structures that ensure solidarity and proper care for all residents.

Unfolding - To equip for conscious ageing and conscious living in a digital society

Our Erasmus+ projects translate conscious ageing into real-life experiences—bringing people together, creating spaces for dialogue, and building communities that continue beyond the project itself.

Cross-Border Learning Communities

We brought together adult learners from the Netherlands and Hungary, creating spaces for collaboration, dialogue, and shared learning around conscious ageing.

Civic Participation

Through these communities, individuals and groups strengthened their capacity to engage actively in ageing-related initiatives and intergenerational cooperation.

Strategic Local Partnerships

Working closely with partners such as Jánoshida Municipality, we deepened local cooperation—supporting civic participation, making better use of local resources, and contributing to the launch of the European Conscious Ageing Network.

Digital Inclusion

We supported older adults in developing digital skills, literacy, and wellbeing—helping them navigate and benefit from an increasingly digital world.

Ecosystem Impact

These efforts contributed to the growth of the conscious ageing ecosystem, connecting local initiatives to a broader national and European context.

Social PEAS - Social Permaculture: Empowering an active society

Social Peas was an Erasmus+ project exploring how permaculture and nature-based approaches can strengthen wellbeing, resilience, and social inclusion. HCAF contributed as a partner to bringing these methods into practice.

Inclusive Permaculture Training

The project developed training for adult educators and vulnerable adults, building knowledge and skills in social permaculture and nature-based approaches to support wellbeing and environmental awareness.

Strengthening Educators’ Capacity

Adult educators gained practical tools and expertise to create permaculture gardens and design programmes that support marginalised adults and build resilient communities.

Skills for Participation and Self-Reliance

Vulnerable adults developed key competencies—from self-care and collaboration to food autonomy and green entrepreneurship—supporting more active participation in society.

Connecting Social and Environmental Action

The project raised awareness of the interconnectedness of social and environmental challenges, positioning education and community work as drivers of transformation.

Open Resources and Lasting Impact

Self-paced, open-access educational materials were created to ensure long-term use and wider reach across communities and organisations.

P_AGE - Community intergenerational and Age-friendly platform of Pécs

P-AGE was created to explore how conscious ageing can strengthen intergenerational cooperation and social cohesion at community level. Through a strategic partnership between the Hekate Conscious Ageing Foundation and the Pécs Community Foundation, the project became a space for learning, co-creation, and practical experimentation across generations and sectors.

Intergenerational Dialogue and Shared Learning

The project brought together participants across generations and disciplines to exchange experiences, challenge assumptions, and develop a shared understanding of ageing-related opportunities and challenges.

Community Tools for Cooperation

An elderly-friendly intergenerational toolkit was developed, combining practical methods, exercises, and a sensitising board game to support collaboration and dialogue in communities.

Strategic Local Partnerships

Working closely with partners such as Jánoshida Municipality, we deepened local cooperation—supporting civic participation, making better use of local resources, and contributing to the launch of the European Conscious Ageing Network.

Training as a Catalyst for Action

A 10-module Conscious Ageing training programme supported professionals from diverse sectors to apply ageing-sensitive and intergenerational approaches in their daily work and local strategies.

Local Innovation for Complex Challenges

The project opened space to explore community-based responses to issues such as care, housing, dementia prevention, and end-of-life—generating new ideas, collaborations, and concrete actions.

Building the Local Conscious Ageing Ecosystem

Beyond its formal outcomes, P-AGE acted as a catalyst for strengthening networks, deepening cooperation between organisations, and advancing the Conscious Ageing ecosystem in Pécs.

DigInclude - Developing Digital Skills in Disadvantaged Groups

The DigInclude project explored how digital inclusion can create pathways to equal opportunity, employability, and social participation. Through a partnership led by SignCoders and supported by HCAF, the project connected digital skills development with community learning and practical responses to workforce challenges.

Cross-Border Learning Community

The project brought together adult learners in Hungary and the Netherlands, creating a space for dialogue, shared learning, and co-created digital inclusion initiatives.

Digital Skills for Opportunity

Disadvantaged youth and young adults strengthened digital skills, literacy, and wellbeing—building confidence and readiness for participation in a digital world.

Bridging the Skills Gap

By addressing the disconnect between underrepresented talent and labour market demand, the project supported pathways into the digital economy and beyond.

Employment-Focused Lifelong Learning

Digital training was linked to practical employment opportunities, showing how adult education can move from learning into action.

Equal Access and Community Resilience

The project promoted lifelong digital learning as a tool for equal opportunity, social inclusion, and long-term workforce resilience, while reinforcing the role of communities in driving these transitions.
